On Sunday 17 May, get on your bike and have a fun morning exploring the cycle paths of Canley Vale, Lansvale and Cabramatta. The free community ride starts at 9am from Adams Park, Canley Vale. For more information, check out the Discover Lake Loop by bike flyer (PDF, 184KB).

Free bike checks are available from ABC Bikes on the day. (If your bicycle needs prior maintenance, ABC Bikes branches are located at Liverpool and Fairfield Heights). If you don’t have a bike, free bike hire is available. Contact 9828 5911 by Thursday 14 May to book your free bike.

Physical activity survey

Miller bike fleet wins national award

The Miller bike fleet has won a 2008 Bicycling Achievement Award for the category Special Achievement Award by a Bicycle Organisation. The awards were presented at Old Parliament House in Canberra yesterday at an event presided over by former Victorian Premier The Hon Steve Bracks. Vicki Wade (pictured left), Area Director for Aboriginal Health SSWAHS, accepted an award on behalf of the Aboriginal Men’s Group in Miller. Well done to everyone involved!

‘Cycle Quest’ at the Georges River Education Centre

A ’Cycle Quest’ is a fun way to learn about the lake environment by bike. Recently, 14 students from Chipping Norton Primary School attended the first ever ‘Cycle Quest’ at the Georges River Education Centre . ‘Cycle quests’ will be available to primary and high schools.

Participants learn about the local environment by bike. They gain health benefits of cycling as a physical activity and cycling skills to participate in the quest and also improve their skills for cycling for physical activity and recreation. Adventurers start out at the Georges River Education Centre with a cycle skill course. They brush up on gears, brakes and manoeuvers to ride along the lake to follow the clues to discover the diverse environment of the lake. Students use a GPS to navigate their way through.

In partnership with us, the project has been developed with the Georges River Environment Education Centre, Bicycle NSW, Ride2School Project and Austcycle.
